Position Summary Georgetown Visitation, an all-girls, Catholic secondary school in the Roman Catholic and Salesian traditions, is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Chief Financial Officer. The CFO’s primary responsibility is to manage all aspects of the school’s financial management and accounting functions. In addition, the CFO will oversee the development and execution of a sustainable, multi-year financial strategy to ensure the fiscal stability of the school. Related responsibilities include enterprise risk management, compliance with federal and state regulations, preparation of the annual budget, and financial reporting. The CFO will report to the Head of School and work in close collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a clear vision of the role of finance in realizing institutional objectives and priorities. An outstanding communicator and problem solver, s/he will bring a proven commitment to transparency and collaboration. A minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible senior management experience in a complex, preferably academic, environment is required. An MBA or CPA is strongly preferred.
Ensure the school’s financial stability by developing, implementing and monitoring effective systems of financial control and decision-making.
Steward the school’s resources effectively and, by the application of sound business principles, improve its operating efficiency.
Oversee the preparation and communication of financial statements for the Head of School and Board of Directors.
Lead the annual budgeting process to ensure a high degree of financial literacy among all senior staff and department chairs.
Remain knowledgeable of emerging trends and their potential impact on the school’s future.
Research, analyze, and present benchmarking data that will advise all financial decisions.
Oversee other specific responsibilities including enterprise risk management, employee salaries and benefits, compliance with federal and state regulations, preparation of the annual budget, and the development of a sustainable, multi-year financial model.
Oversee coordination and activities of independent auditors for both annual financial statements and retirement plans.
Attend and support Board and Finance/Audit Committee (and relevant subcommittee) meetings.
Work in close collaboration with the Development office and Monastery business office to ensure effective communication and controls.
Oversee administrative services including facilities, campus bookstore, kitchen, catering, and onsite childcare center.
An MBA or CPA is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible senior management experience in a complex, preferably academic, environment are required.
Comprehensive knowledge of accounting, reimbursement, financial compliance, cash management, contracting, purchasing, enterprise risk management, and investing.
Proven ability to develop a financial strategy and provide vital business insights.
Exceptional project management skills: developing project plans, communicating changes and progress, and completing projects on time and within budget.
Strong business acumen and a demonstrated ability to manage teams and vendor relationships.
Outstanding oral and written communication and an ability to present data and ideas effectively to various constituencies.
High degree of computer literacy with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), accounting, and fundraising software. Familiarity with Intacct Financial Systems preferred.
