ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
GLIDE seeks a seasoned and strategic development professional to join a growing development team during a time of exceptional growth and change. The Director of Institutional Giving (Director), will be charged with building and managing partnerships and other strategic alliances with large, local, regional and national foundations and corporations, as well as government funding entities to significantly increase revenue from institutional sources. The Director will embrace GLIDE’s mission to alleviate suffering and break cycles of poverty and marginalization, and be passionate about leveraging his or her professional expertise to advance social justice in San Francisco. The position reports to the Chief Development Officer and manages a team of three.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and manage a high-value, high-yield portfolio of corporate, foundation, and government prospects, donors, investors, partners, and allies; cultivate and engage effectively with relevant Bay Area and national corporate and foundation executives, program officers, board members and staff;
Design and implement annual and multi-year revenue development plans to achieve ambitious contact and revenue goals for the institutional giving program;
Develop and coördinate implementation of Glide’s institutional relationship strategy, in close collaboration with colleagues in development and programming, and with Glide executives and Board members;
Raise, and lead the institutional giving team to raise, significant philanthropic revenue from corporations and foundations, through gifts, grants, sponsorships, memberships, partnership agreements and other mechanisms;
Develop the personal and professional abilities of the institutional giving program team, and manage the team to a high standard of individual and collective performance;
Design, facilitate, secure, and take the lead in fulfilling productive partnership agreements that maximize value for Glide and its partners;
Participate in creating and sustaining a ‘culture of philanthropy’ within the organization;
Creatively engage and mobilize support from new constituencies;
Serve as a spokesperson for GLIDE within corporate and foundation communities;
Act as a thought partner to the CDO and other GLIDE executives.
8+ years’ experience in corporate and foundation relations leadership positions, including in entrepreneurial and growth contexts;
Expertise across a wide variety of corporate, foundation, and government entity types, engagement strategies, and funding mechanisms;
Working familiarity with Bay Area and national corporate and foundation landscape, and with social justice funders;
Experience developing and contributing to multi-year capital and thematic campaigns;
Experience building and sustaining productive donor relationships over time with both national and regional corporate and foundation partners;
Experience managing and mentoring development staff members;
Outstanding communication skills across multiple platforms, contexts and communities;
Credibility and compassion to represent and advocate for an organization embedded in a high poverty community with extensive and complex needs (San Francisco’s Tenderloin district);
Ability to work some non-traditional hours (nights and weekends).
