The University of Louisville seeks a highly motivated, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Founded in 1798, the University of Louisville is a nationally recognized, state supported metropolitan research university and academic medical center across three campuses in Kentucky's largest metropolitan area. The university enrolls approximately 22,000 undergraduate and graduate students, offering graduate, professional, baccalaureate, and associate degrees, as well as certificates, in over 170 fields of study. The CFO will report directly to the President of the University and serve as a member of the President’s Senior Leadership Team. Working in close partnership with the Deans and Vice Presidents, as well as other campus constituents, the CFO is responsible for providing a fiscally sound vision and operational plan, while ensuring a high level of innovation, transparency, collaboration, and accountability. Key to this role is the development and support of integrated long range financial, operational, and capital plans and development and implementation of new budget models to support the University’s long-range objectives.
The CFO will join the University of Louisville at a critical time for redefining the financial infrastructure and providing bold thinking necessary to assist the President and Provost in delivering transformational education and student experiences. Providing leadership to a large and diverse team, the CFO will oversee and strengthen the university’s financial units in order to execute the university’s strategic plan, support innovation, and fulfill the mission of the University. The CFO will also clearly communicate financial goals and opportunities to the University community. S/he will have primary responsibility for financial planning and reporting, cash management, operating and capital budgets, accounting services, debt management and endowment, payroll, and treasury services.
The selected candidate will be a seasoned financial leader with a record of accomplishment in an organization of similar scale and complexity, an affinity and talent for collaboration across a variety of stakeholders and excellent communication skills. Key to this role is broad-based financial management experience and a record of leading change, managing resources, and streamlining processes and systems. S/he will be a person of the highest integrity with a collegial style that engenders trust and inspires collaboration, along with an enthusiasm for management of efficient operations and excellent customer service. S/he will work closely with senior leaders, faculty, staff, and various departments to achieve financial-related goals that align with the University of Louisville’s plans and academic mission.
The CFO will be a forward-thinking, strategic and flexible leader who can deal with today’s rapidly changing higher education and financial environments. The successful candidate will bring significant fiscal and administrative experience in complex academic settings, strong financial management skills, familiarity with research universities, and collaborative problem-solving ability. The new CFO will have a proven record of success in navigating highly complex environments as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills with individuals at all levels of an organization. The CFO will be a proven leader with a bias towards action and results, tempered by an appreciation for the rich and diverse culture of a large public, urban research university.
